There are three days left to complete the City of Bemidji’s Resident Survey, which city employees and officials will examine to gauge residents’ opinions about city living.
The survey, which I completed in 3.5 minutes, is online here. The city hopes to get many more responses by the end of this week, and it only takes about five minutes. So if you have the time, let your opinions be heard.
The survey will be available through Friday. You have three days to complete it.

On another note, I am back at work (obviously). I took much of the summer off, as you may or may not have noticed.
I stated again Monday, and I have an ever-expanding list of potential story ideas. But if there is anything out there that I might not be aware of, or perhaps something we missed this summer, let me know. I can’t guarantee I can get to it, but I’d love the heads up.

What about those of us who live outside the city limits, but work and shop there?
There is no facility to house homeless (there are more than six families that need this) or for them to have a place to go during the day other than the library . SOS only serves from Nov – March 31. There are many single and homeless families who have nowhere to go and are sleeping in tents, or their cars. There are couples who have been together more than 20 yrs, but don’t have a marriage certificate. The bus transportation is very lacking. Many customers cannot get service or have to wait one hour or more to recieve it. It is a reflection on our community how we assist those in need. It is not being done.
I did see in the survey, when I filled it out, one question that said something like “How long have you lived in the city?” and one of the choices, if I recall correctly, was “I do not live in the city.” So I still think the city would like your input. We all know that many people do not live within the city limits, but still consider themselves Bemidjians…
I am living in the downtown residential area of Bemidji which is in the city limits. The population is wonderful that I see outside my windows or as I bike down the streets to work and meetings. Young and old are in our downtown area neighborhoods. I do wish a group would go into the area that the tent cities that were destroyed last week and clean up the garbage bags that citizens (not the homeless) have thrown into the bushes and among the trees on that beautiful area. The mess is on the lakeshore north to the tracks from the sewage plant east to the street (Gould?) – Dairy Queen. The tents and belongings of the people have been pushed under the layer of grass, dirt by the front loader which has really caused a physical mess. It is not on the visibility from the street but there is no excuse for this. And yes, there is some mess from the bottles that came from drinking of people (not all homeless were drinking along that strip). The behavior of some of those in power (city citizens patrol and police department for example) are an embarressment to me. They do not know how to speak to the common person. I do appreciate the slowing of traffic which consistently speeds on Paul Bunyan Drive in the downtown area. I wish we could have banners back up in the air over streets downtown again…and a music shell downtown (old fashioned built one) back (we used to have one).
